Brain Exchange

Here's a synopsis of why I created the AIM High Initiative:

I believe far too many students are sitting in high school today frustrated because they don't have the support or encouragement to be successful. Some will be the first one to enter college or even graduate from high school in their family. While struggling academically with lower track classes and not given an individualized plan for success students become lost in the shuffle.  Guidance Counselor's caseloads are overwhelming handling the day-to-day issues, there is little time for 1:1 counseling and mentoring. Students maybe be seen twice if they are lucky to talk about their dreams for college and/or a career.  Most of these students'parents didn't finish high school and really don't know how to help them.  Of course, most parents want the best for their child, but don't know where to turn for support.

I have to say that I  was that child, and my parents dreams for me included education and success. Neither of my parents graduated from high school or had any professional or political ties to help me get ahead.  They rarely came to my school or got involved in School Site Council (SSC).  Regardless, I was the first child to graduate high school and the only child to graduate from college in my family. No one could help me with homework, and I struggled.  I didn't have any mentors, but I had a dream and some really good teachers. I wanted to be a teacher, but no one in my family was an educator and I had no idea how to get started on accomplishing my dream.  My father was a successful building contractor and he spoke life and vision into me that chartered my path.  I made it out of the poorest state in America and made something of myself because he told me that I had to be someone great.  As in great, I'm contributing to society in a meaningful way everyday by making sure students in every class room have the best teachers and leaders.

I want to share my strategies and experiences with high school students. I believe that Brain Exchange is an organization that wants to provide a safety net for students who are at-risk of not making it, by providing them with the tools necessary to chart their own destiny, with learning opportunities and experiences that will help them succeed in high school and beyond, i.e college awareness, career choices and opportunities. This will be done through a two-year program designed to see each participant graduate from high school ready for college or a career.  Your support will help with this initiative.

Board Application

March 7, 2015

I am forming a non-profit and I am looking for some diverse board of directors.   If you are interested or know someone who is interested, please forward this information or reply if are interested

Purpose, Authority and Responsibility of the Board of Directors

The board of directors of a nonprofit corporation is legally and financially responsible for the conduct of the organization. It is not a passive role but rather one that must be active for the good of the organization and for reducing liability of the individual directors. It is not just for-profit corporations that are under ever increasing scrutiny for ethical operations.

The board governs the organization and has specific fiduciary responsibilities for which it must be accountable. These responsibilities are summarized in How to Provide Good Nonprofit Leadership, a brief article on board duties. Additional responsibilities vary but generally include oversight of policy, budgeting, planning, fundraising, human resources, program evaluation and board development. One of the most important roles of the board is to hire an executive director for the organization and to give that person room to lead. The board should provide oversight and not become involved in day-to-day operations.
